Best Friends Adoption – May 21 and 22 2011

We spent this past weekend at the Best Friends Super Adoptions at the La Brea Tar Pits. Sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society and held twice yearly, most of the municipal animal shelters and many private rescues such as Dawg Squad bring their dogs and cats to show to potential adopters. It’s a favorite event of mine, with a constant parade of dog-lovers and dogs of all breeds, shapes, and sizes, often dressed up in fancy collars or outfits, hoping to find their forever homes.

Waiting for the event to begin

It is also always fun to have some of our previous adoptors stop by with their dogs just to say hello and sometimes consider adding another to their pack!  So much fun to see Cookie and Hank and Annabelle and Embry!    And we cannot forget Oliver who helped Champ gain some confidence walking through the crowds.

And how did we do? Well, we are happy to report that Willow found her forever home, and things are looking promising for Howard.

If you’ve never visited a Best Friends adoptions event, we encourage you to do so; we’ll let you know when the next one is scheduled, probably November.

Also, special thanks to Danielle for giving Crawford such a fabulous massage; he really seemed to have a spring in his step afterwards! And to all our wonderful volunteers for giving up their entire weekend to help the Dawg Squad dogs! Oh, and to Winnie, for those fabulous little PB & J sandwiches…love ’em!
